Art travels. Last time I checked in we'd left Alabama and moved to Mississippi. I was painting less sea life and more shrimp boats and marshes. Now we're in the Florida Keys and no matter how ridiculously bright I paint, I can't out-do the actual color of the water.
I'm doing a book giveaway at the end of the newsletter, so stick around for that.
There's this great, dilapidated railway that runs the length of the keys, and these large, steel lighthouses that mark the reefs. My colors have changed a little, but the subject matter shoudl fit really well.
What can I bring to the Keys? Well the Keys are on the Gulf of Mexico after all. After the Caribbean, the Gulf coast is probably the biggest cultural influence down here. You can see it in the food, the lifestyle. So the style I've been cultivating is still a good fit..
Art in Alabama and Mississippi
You can still find my paintings on the Gulf Coast and there's a trip in the works to bring new art there later in the year. There are paintings at Gulf Coast Arts Alliance in Gulf Shores,
Portabella's Restaurant in Foley, Papa's Pizza Fairhope, and
Coastal Magpie in Ocean Springs
It's a little bit like a scavenger hunt. Look closely and you'll find my paintings all over the place.
Here's the giveaway. First an update. I have been taking two months off from painting. The reason is, I'm finishing my second and third science fiction books. That's right, I wrote two. To celebrate the upcoming release, I'm giving away paperback copies of my first novel. So if you know someone who likes science fiction, send them to http://www.dustinporta.com/book_list.html Everyone on the list gets entered in the drawing. I'll also be giving away digital copies of the upcoming titles, so check it out.
